Building A GP Accelerator: How To Accelerate New Venture Capital Firms?
Explore the concept of a GP accelerator, what it is, how to develop one and how to design the business model behind a GP accelerator.
Back in 2004, few people had ever heard about an ‘accelerator’. In fact, the first ever ‘official’ startup accelerator, Y Combinator, started in 2005. Over the following 5-6 years, startup accelerators exploded globally. Brand names like 500 Global, TechStars, SeedCamp, StartupBootcamp spread quickly.
Today, startup accelerators are ‘everywhere’, with some researchers claiming more than 8.000 programs around the world. In less than 20 years, startup accelerators have gone from pre-idea to full market saturation. While the model is constantly evolving, Impact with Katapult or Day Zero with Antler, accelerators have grown into a key part of any startup ecosystem.
Today, we see a new wave, a new cycle of accelerators. The rise of the GP accelerator. Much like startup accelerators 20 years ago, it started recently, but is spreading quickly.
GP Accelerators, contrary to startup accelerators is not designed for the startup; but for the venture capital and private equity investor. The GP accelerator aims to accelerate investors, and new investment firms.
Five years ago, the concept did not exits. Today, there is a rapidly growing number of GP Accelerators around the world.
From VC Lab (online), Coolwater Capital’s Build, ICFA (international Climate Finance Accelerator), 2X Ignite GP Sprint and Allocator One, the world is seeing the rise of a new breed of accelerators.
In this webinar, we will be exploring the concept of a GP accelerator, what it is, how to develop one and how to design the business model behind a GP accelerator.
