Cluster Starting Point Canvas

Before you start exploring your Innovation Supercluster strategy, it might be wise to take a moment to assess your starting point. Where you are will greatly impact how you design, develop, and build your Innovation Superclusters.

3 Outcomes
from Using
Cluster Starting Point Canvas

Assess where you are as a cluster

Use the Canvas to understand your starting point – both as a national cluster program and individual cluster.

Build a solid Supercluster strategy

Gather everyone around your current status – and future vision. Create a shared roadmap and moment to where you would like to see your Cluster program in the future.

A large number of clusters may have run their course. They need a reinvention. That is okay too.

Use Case:

In working with several international clusters, we realize the core members have very different understanding of their various starting points. Use the Canvas to create a shared understanding of “where are we”, or “what is our shared started point?”.

How to Use it

Stick it to the Wall

The Cluster Starting Point Canvas differs from most of the other Strategy Tools. It is not designed to be worked on, but as a framework for opening discussions and alignment. We have a new version in the works that will include more “work”.

For now, you can print it, and stick it on the wall – or simply share it on a screen or a laptop.

Discuss & Align

Walk people through the five categories; Start, Grow, Upgrade, Develop, Reinvent. Take your time to present the five different starting points. Make sure the participants agree on the current starting point.

Create the Roadmap

Where do we want to take our National Cluster Program? What are our aspirations? What financial impact are we seeking? How ambitious are we?  Work with your group to create the roadmap you want for your Cluster Program.
