Supercluster Strategy Map
The Supercluster Strategy Map is recommended as the core Supercluster tool.
Use the Strategy Map to design your Supercluster and strategy. Use it to build your Supercluster membership base, identify key stakeholders and future partners. This is a highly impactful tool for large-scale group sessions and workshops. Combines well with Supercluster Fundamentals.
the Supercluster Strategy Map
Build a true innovation supercluster
Most clusters are deeply skewed toward industry (corporate members) or academia (academic members). Use the strategy map to build a more balanced cluster and lay the groundwork for growing a true Innovation Supercluster.
From Triple Helix to Pentagon model
For the past 25 years, the Triple Helix framework has shaped western innovation policies. Today, this is changing as the Pentagon model is gaining popularity.
Building on research from MIT (reap), BI – Norwegian Business School and Harvard Business School, the Strategy Map represents a new generation of strategy thinking for innovation clusters.
Involve, engage, recruit
Use the Supercluster Strategy Map to involve, engage and activate the right stakeholders and members.
Use the Map as your guide to identify and recruit local, national and global members to your Supercluster initiative.
National Cluster Program
Snapshot: How to Use It
The Norwegian Cluster Program, Norwegian Innovation Clusters, uses the Strategy Map as a core cluster tool. Virtually every single innovation cluster get introduced to the tool. It is used for introduction level workshops, advanced strategy workshops, underpinning new cluster strategies and often being the platform upon which the cluster sits.
In Norway, the tool is often customized to each innovation cluster, by adding logos and adapting the strategic questions to each cluster’s unique context.
How to Use
Stick it on the Wall - or on Group Tables
The Supercluster Strategy Map is built for you, your team, board, key stakeholders and cluster partners. You can use it all by yourself, as a strategy tool for your close team or Board.
We love using it for large-scale group sessions, counting 5, 8 or 10 groups, with 50 – 100 people in the room. That’s when it really comes to its own.
Go big, if you plan on printing it, go 120 cm or 150 cm sizes.
Write Directly Onto the Tool or on Stattys
Feel free to have people write directly on the tool itself. We give out colorful pens and markers of all sizes. A well-worn Strategy Map is red, purple, blue and black, frequently with coffee stains in the corners.
If you plan on preserving or evolving the debate, it might be a good idea to write on Stattys or 3M post-its.
Leave Ample Time for Discussions
We suggest using a “world café” setup, where groups work for 20 minutes, then rotate to a new group. We find groups can easily spend 20 – 30 minutes, and still don’t get to the core of things. Balance your time of working and speed of rotating with the progress of each group.
Where to use the Supercluster Strategy Map
The Supercluster Strategy Map is frequently used in both entry-level and advanced strategy workshops. Use it as a large-scale, printed tool (113 cm or larger) to drive strategic conversations around the key themes and questions facing the cluster.
All clusters, regardless of shape and ambitions, should be shaped around the Supercluster Strategy Map.
Use it for internal strategy work, board sessions, management meetings and overall strategy shaping.
To build a long-term Supercluster
The Supercluster Strategy Map shows the future of Innovation Superclusters.
Use it for the long-term growth and development of your cluster. Bring it into partner meetings, conferences, political stakeholder meetings, ecosystem building and more.
Use it internally and externally to drive a deeper understanding of your long-term Supercluster roadmap.
